Save Security Chain Company QG0262 Quik Grip Garden Tractor and Snow Blower Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2

good chains, fit my craftsman mower well and gave me the traction I needed. Will agree with another reviewer... would be nice to have an extra cross chain or two where they hook together. As is they leave about a foot of the diameter of the tire with no cross chain.. so you get alittle slippage at that point. Would be nice if they came with tightners, but two old bungee cords did the trick. Cheap Accutire MS-5540 300 PSI 12V Air Compressor with Light

This product is very poor quality.

Pros:
* Very handy light.
* Cord is long enough for most uses (but might not reach your rear tires if you don't have an auxiliary power plug in the back of your vehicle).

Cons:
* Cannot have both light and compressor running at same time.
* Vibrates like crazy.
* Very slow. It took more than a minute to go from 28 to 30 psi.
* It connects ok, but when you release the locking lever the rubber inside the compressor's valve connector sticks to the tire's valve stem threads and makes it nearly impossible to remove. You loose massive amounts of air pressure in the attempt. I had to return the compressor because I can't see how this can be considered anything other than defective. Maybe this problem is limited to the one I received?Get more detail about Accutire MS-5540 300 PSI 12V Air Compressor with Light.

Buying TIRE REPAIR/MAINT KIT

This product has everything one could want to repair a hole in a tire. I bought this for my husband and he was very pleased with the quality and quantity of the items. It has plugs of varying sizes and the little tools that inserts them. He tried one and it worked perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone in the market for one. I am particularly pleased with the fact that it will last any ordinary user years and years!Get more detail about TIRE REPAIR/MAINT KIT.

Where To Buy Professional Products 11101 Street Tire Pressure Gauge

Here's my round-up of tire pressure gauges. Prices vary a lot on Amazon. Usually much cheaper if purchased directly from Amazon (free shipping) than from an affiliated seller. So be careful which seller you pick. If Amazon is out of stock, you may want to wait a week or two. Prices below are what I paid, including free shipping.

In Jan 2009, I bought two gauges: (a) Moroso 89560 ($40.04), an analog dial gauge, and (b) Accutire MS-5510B ($38.41), a digital dial gauge. I have separate reviews for these two units. Both are good units with a flexible hose attachment and a bleed valve. They are fine in the garage, and fit any tire, but are bulky to keep in a glove compartment if you want to check pressures when you're on the road (for example, if you suspect a leak). I just bought three compact units. All three are analog dial gauges: I don't want battery-powered units stashed away in a glove compartment (extreme high and low temps, and who wants a unit with a dead battery in an emergency?).

Same review posted for the following:

Milton (MIL) MILS902 $21.63
Professional Products (PP) 11101 $9.88
Auto Meter (AM) Auto gage 2343 $16.50

All five gauges have a range of 0 - 60 psi. My tires run from 28 - 35 psi. Main features to consider:

(1) Accuracy. Accuracy is specified with respect to a calibration source. Since I don't have a calibration source, I can't comment on accuracy.

(2) Resolution. (a) Accutire. Digital readout. 0.1 psi resolution. (b) Moroso. 2-1/2 in diam dial. Can estimate to nearest ½ psi. (c) MIL, PP, AM. 2 in diam dial. Can estimate to nearest 1 psi.

(3) Reproducibility. Repeated 6 readings for each gauge. Expected some air loss for each reading. No noticeable change for analog gauges. 0.5 psi drop total after six readings for Accutire (it's not leakier, it's only because of the higher resolution).

(4) Agreement. Ran 5 sequences of the 5 gauges in different order. All gauges agreed within +/-1 psi. This is good news. MIL consistently 1 psi lower than the others, but this is fine.

(5) Mechanical.

(a) PP and AM appear to be the same gauge, with two minor differences. Don't know if the innards are the same though...can't open the cases. Both weigh 150 gm, so probably the same inside as well. Heavy sheet metal body. Heavy metal neck, chuck, and valve. Heavy plastic dial cover (hard, not tough, plastic though). Tick marks and numbers on AM dial much sharper than on PP. PP comes with fitted plastic case; AM doesn't. Case is low quality though...hard, not tough, plastic; snap fit. Good for stashing in a glove compartment or tool box. But probably will crack and open up if dropped.

(b) MIL. Heavy metal neck, chuck, and valve. **Extremely el-cheapo and flimsy plastic body and dial cover.**

Common features (MIL, PP, AM):

(1) Have a neck with an angled chuck. Non-swivel. PM, AM neck 2 in length. Milton neck about ¾ in longer.

(2) Have bleed valve. Smooth operation. After gauge is removed, pressure reading is supposed to hold until bleed valve is released. (PP, AM): Reading holds even after 30 sec. (MIL): Reading starts to drop once the gauge is removed (not acceptable).

Common negs:

(1) None come with a boot. Should be standard. A boot is available, but Amazon doesn't sell it directly. An affiliated seller wants $2.99 + $6.95 shipping. That's more than I paid for the PP gauge itself. I have a couple of 25+ yr old Brookstone gauges that have finally deserved a decent burial. Their rubber boots are still in good shape after all these years, and they fit my new gauges just fine.

(2) Gauges without a hose are tricky to use. Many wheels now have spokes, and the valve stems are recessed. Worse, my wife's car has short rigid tire sensors: the stems don't flex at all. If you get a gauge with a straight chuck, the neck is often too short and you can't seat the chuck (the gauge body gets in the way). So these units have an angled chuck. The design is idotic though, because the bleed valve is on the same side as the chuck. Depending on the tire, the bleed valve presses against the wheel when you try to seat the chuck. Not good. There is no swivel head. So if you position the gauge to clear the wheel, you may end up with the gauge oriented such that you can't read it. In which case, it's critical that the bleed valve doesn't leak...that way you can get a valid reading after you remove the gauge. You, of course, lose the capability to overfill the tire a bit and then bleed the pressure to the right value as you look at the dial. So these operate more like stick gauges. In this respect, none of this group of three is totally satisfactory.

Summary: Of the three, though, I'd go with the PP. It has the lowest price and has a storage case. It's essentially the same as the AM. It's not worth the extra $ to get the sharper graphics on the AM. The MIL is the most expensive, is the flimsiest, and my unit came with a leaky valve. I returned it. Five stars to Amazon for free return shipping and processing a refund within several days.

Note added 8/22/09: Prices fluctuate a lot. Go with either PP or AM. If one is significantly cheaper when you order, go with that one.

Shop For McGard 24205 Chrome Cone Seat Wheel Locks (M14 x 2.0 Thread Size) - Set of 4

I purchased these for my new 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat. I have one with 20" rims. Before purchasing, I went through my local Ford dealer & bought the ones that they recommended. They ended up being way too long & looked out of place so I returned them & found these. These fit perfectly & are no more that 1/4" longer than the factory lug nuts. You really can't tell unless you get right up on the wheel. These are a perfect fit & look great! I also purchased a Wheel Lock Key pouch...great way to store the wheel lock so it doesn't get misplaced. New York Yankees Tire Cover Decide Now

The tire cover was a nice quality. The only problem was that the cover is to be slid over the tire with elastic that is run through the edge of the cover. We were concerned since there was no way to secure the cover, it could be easily stolen. We spent more money buying metal cord and a lock to try to make it secure. Otherwise, it looks great on the car.

McGard 24198 Chrome Cone Seat Wheel Locks (1/2" - 20 Thread Size) - Set of 4 Right now

These set of locks are great! They fit my Ford Edge's 18" wheels perfectly. The key has an odd pattern that prevents thieves with other keys from removing the locks. The locks are well made and extremely sturdy. I could not even create a mark on these locks with a hacksaw! Lowest Price Topeak Smart Head Digital Air Pressure Gauge

I thought I'd get a digital meter to use on my bike and motorcycle and this one was pretty affordable. I tried it out last night and it is unbelievable horrible. Getting it on an off a presta valve is a challenge and results in lots of air loss. (On a schraeder, it works much easier.) When checking multiple tires, you need to turn off the device and restart it. There is no simple "reset" button. The placement of the buttons makes it very easy to accidentally turn it off when you're trying to take a reading. This thing is being immediately returned.Get more detail about Topeak Smart Head Digital Air Pressure Gauge.

Save Slime COMP 07 Rechargable Tire Inflator

I'm not sure why some of the reviews had all good things to say about the Comp 07 yet the product was rated only 4 stars.... That doesn't make any sense

Anyway, I bought this device so that I don't have to keep driving to the gas station to pump my tires. The battery holds a charge for a long time and is very handy for emergency situations. It filled two halfway inflated tires to 35 PSI in a respectable 7 minutes. Not everyone has a garage to park their cars, so the fact that you can charge it, take it outside and pump up your tires, and not have to worry about cords and the absence of a power socket is a major plus.

You won't be disappointed with this compressor. 5 starsGet more detail about Slime COMP 07 Rechargable Tire Inflator.

Cheap Gorilla Automotive VS407C Flush Mount Valve Stems - Slotted Cap

This product, as advertised is a great low profile valve solution for those of us looking for a clean install or a way to keep wandering neighborhood kids' hands away from our tire valves and covers. Unfortunately the filling extension tube which must be threaded into the recessed valve is very inefficient at conveying air. Now I'm not sure how well this filling method may work on a wheel and tire combo with a smaller cavity, such as low profile tires perhaps. I will say my 33x12.50s took excrutiatingly long to fill. So much so, that I deemed the system inpractical, and although I left the unit installed in my spare, I went out and got the shorty hard valves from the same manufacturer. Thanks for reading and good luck.
OH and P.S. if you were wondering, the slot is roughly the size of a quarter.Get more detail about Gorilla Automotive VS407C Flush Mount Valve Stems - Slotted Cap.

Buying Slime 10009 Tubeless Tire Sealant - 32 oz.

It was getting to the point that I was filling my tires 2 to 3 times a week. I took the worst of the tires and soaped it up. The leaking was coming from around the bang-on rim weight. I called up my local tire repair shop and they wanted $25+ to dismount, clean and remount the tire to fix the rim-leak. Since all four tires were leaking, it would cost me over $100 (with tax, etc.) to have all tires done. Then, I remembered Slime, and asked a guy at the auto parts store if it worked. He said that his tires were leaking like a sieve all around the side-walls, which Slime fixed. IMPORTANT: He said NOT to follow the instructions on the bottle and, instead, put in 8oz per tire for 24 in. tires. That is roughly 60% more than recommended according to the instructions on the bottle.

I was able to buy a 32oz bottle for around $9.00 where I live. When I got home, I got a ruler, placed the bottle upright on a flat surface and measured the amount of liquid in the bottle. I made 4 marks on the side of the bottle with an indelible marker -- dividing the contents into 4 parts (if the label goes all the way around the bottle with no gap, you will have to peel some of the label off so you can mark the bottle directly and see the remaining level of fluid inside as you squeeze the contents into each tire). I then took out my hydraulic jack; jacked up one side of the car in order to relieve the weight on the tires when deflated, then removed the valve from the stems in the two tires on that side. After all air was out of the tires, I squeezed in 1/4 (8oz) of the bottle into each tire, screwed the valve back into the stems, re-inflated the tires and dropped the car back onto the garage floor. I repeated this procedure with the other side of the car. All-in-all, it didn't take me more than 30 minutes to deflate all four tires, squeeze the slime in and re-fill them with air.

I then took the car out for a drive -- to work the Slime into all the crevices of the tire and rim. There was an immediate difference; and, within a few days of driving (because it takes time to work the slime into all the nooks and crannies) there were no more severe leaks. It was the first time I was able to go for more than a week without having to fill my tires. After 3-4 weeks, the tires are holding air and I don't even have to top them off anymore.

Interestingly, just last week before Christmas, I noticed that one of the tires on my wife's car was flat. Luckily, I noticed it while it was still sitting in the garage. I filled it up with air, and it was flat the next morning. I filled it up again, and it was flat that evening (it was getting worse real fast). I took the tire off and soaped it up like I did on my car. Wow! There were leaks all around both the inside and outside rim (must be all the salt and below-zero weather). So, like I did to my car, I slimed it and filled it up with air. I drove it around for about 10 minutes and parked it. A few days later, it still read the same pressure as I put in it a few days earlier after I slimed it. A few days later, I did the other three tires.

As I figure it, I saved over $200 in rim-cleaning & remounting costs for 8-tires with two $9.00 32oz bottles of Slime.

Also, be aware, that since there is so much slime in the tires (way more than the directions say to use, as explained above following the instructions from the auto-parts guy), at speeds over 35-40 mph, the tires will be a bit unbalanced for about a mile until the slime evens out from centrifugal force -- something that I have no problem living with, since it saved me over $200. After about a mile, everything smoothes out and the wheels automatically fall back into balance (kind of like those centrifugal balancing weights used on 18-wheelers). I have driven at speeds up to 65 mph for long durations with no noticeable shimmy or bounce after the slime re-balances itself inside the tires.

Buy (4) 2.0" ATV Wheel Spacers with 4/110 bolt pattern for Yamaha Rhino Polaris Honda Suzuki

Polaris Predator 90 is one model that it clearly states that this fits. I spent 2 hours machining away a BUNCH of aluminum to get these to fit. There is no recessed area to clear the hubs on the inside AND they are too wide to fit the wheel (OD), so the outside edge had to be machined away. These are excellent quality lug nuts. I have only had them a few weeks and they are great so far. The real test will be after the winter season. I am using these on my snowmobile trailer and no other lug nut has made it even one season without rusting. I am hoping the claims are true and that the triple plating of the McGard nuts will last for several years. Where To Buy x Tread Digital Tire Gage (FOW74-225-500) Category: Wheel and Tire Service

I brought it for catching up with tire rotation. I don't need the resolution but if there's a cheaper digital one I will get it. Digital means no guessing time, saving effort of my eyesight, and I can take as many readings one after the other.

I do not just need past or fail thread depth reading. I need to compare different tires, and the inner and outer depths of each tire. It does what it's suppose to do.

Precision instruments have to be plastic. How much it cost for a high precision metal cast as compared to a plastic one? Metal cast cannot have very sharp edge, imagine that.

My Dyson vacuum cleaner used some very high quality plastic, virtually bullet proof, and look new after a few years of abuse.Get more detail about x Tread Digital Tire Gage (FOW74-225-500) Category: Wheel and Tire Service.

Husky Liners 57601 Custom Molded Black Thermoplastic Rear Mud Guard - Set of 2 Review

I've installed two complete sets of four of these on two 2004-2009 F150 pickups (one 2007 and one 2009). They fit perfectly, require only one hole to be drilled through steel per fender (and one per side into plastic inner fender liner on front wheels) and use two existing holes at each fender. The contour nicely matches the truck, they are functional, very unobtrusive, and look much better than flat mud flaps. Also, they are pretty much self-aligning/self-leveling. The first set of four took me approx. 45 minutes to install, taking my time and reading instructions carefully. The second set took me less than 30 minutes. This review is for PN's 56601 and 57601, for 2004-2009 F150 without OEM fender flares. Another plus, if it matters to anyone, these are designed and made in the USA, in the state of Kansas.Get more detail about Husky Liners 57601 Custom Molded Black Thermoplastic Rear Mud Guard - Set of 2.

Gorilla Automotive 21133RD Small Diameter Acorn Red 5 Lug Kit (12mm x 1.50 Thread Size) - Pack of 20 Top Quality

I suppose it may be difficult to make a metallic red plating that is tough, so it may not be fair to complain about it. But, you should be aware that the color is fairly fragile. The spline driver scrapes some of the red off along the splines. But, you can't see that anyway. So as long as you are careful not to scratch the head part of the lug, it should be okay. Mine look okay and you can't tell that the spline area is scratched. I've seen some lugnuts with just a colored cap, and that might make better sense.

Also, while spline drive lugnuts are "sort of" locking, meaning that somebody couldn't easily steel the wheels without a spline driver, but, a good crook would probably have a spline driver. So its not that secure. it would be better if it was more of a true lock, where you don't have the same key as anybody else.

Finally, I should have got the 1.5 length instead of the 1.25 length. that was my mistake. They look a bit recessed into the wheel, so, check to see what length you need.

Lisle 65250 Universal Bearing Packer Immediately

I used to use the palm of my hand to pack wheel bearings on my Trailers. As I've gotten older, my hands start to ache - so I found and bought this.

Of course, got the usual Amazon great service, fast delivery, no damage.

It's simple to use, simple to clean, and works great - no voids, no missed spots - will repack a bearing in nothing flat - just put the bearing in the middle (either side up) connect it to a grease gun (manual, air - doesn't matter) squirt until fresh grease comes out of the bearing, and you're done! I use the extra grease in the middle during the repack itself - so no waste!

Of course - always use new wheel seals - don't be too cheap - it's worth it in the long run!Get more detail about Lisle 65250 Universal Bearing Packer.

Husky Liners 56591 Custom Molded Black Thermoplastic Front Mud Guard - Set of 2 Best Quality

I love these model specific molded splash guards which are also very easy to install. I installed the rear ones with the provided instructions and included hardware. The front splash guards came without the mounting instructions and hardware needed to mount them to the wheel wells. It is pretty hard to find black #10 screws and fender washers. No one wants to install bright stainless steel or galvanized screws and washers against a black splash guard. Husky needs to improve on their packaging as I am to assume the very loose packaging allowed the hardware to get lost in transit or they didn't bother to include them.Get more detail about Husky Liners 56591 Custom Molded Black Thermoplastic Front Mud Guard - Set of 2.

Fix-A-Flat - Super Tire Inflator, 20 oz., Case of 6 (S430-C) Decide Now

SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I REALLY NEEDED THIS STUFF RATHER DESPERATELY ------ AND IT WORKED, BUT - - -

I did not really have quite enough product in the 16 oz. can that I got at Wal-Mart [this is the 20 oz. can offered here] to refill my leaking tire --that I had to do at the gas station some 6 miles away. In essence, the operation was a success, but I had to resuscitate the patient again at the gas station some 6 miles and a number of grey hairs down the road. If the can was only a tad bigger, it would have added enough air to go safely, rather than unsafely with about 2 psi of air pressure, to the gas station where we completely filled the tire with air. By the way, my tire size was 225/70-14, which requires a pretty large volume of air to fill, but no more than most vans and trucks and less than some. This 16 oz. can would have probably been enough for a small 13" tire, but I should warn you - that the same thing happened 6 years ago, on a 195/70-14 that was an oversized tire on my sons 1999 Toyota Corrolla, but I would be getting ahead of myself.

HERE'S OUR STORY -- IT REALLY HAPPENED LAST FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd in Southern Indiana

IN A NUTSHELL: GREAT PRODUCT - BUT THE 20 OZ. CAN IS PROBABLY THE SMALLEST YOU'LL NEED UNLESS YOU HAVE 13" TIRES

HERE'S THE TALE --

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT'S RAINING & YOUR TIRE GOES FLAT IN WAL-MART'S PARKING LOT?

This happened to me today and I was scared out of my wits. I had an hour to get home before my six-year-old son got off the school bus. I was 25 miles away and I just saw my rear tire and knew it had no air in it. I recalled using this product about 6 years ago and that it worked, so I ran into Wal-Mart and skipped the items I had come shopping for and went straight to the automotive section to hunt for this stuff. Twenty minutes later, standing in the parking lot, I read the directions and realized that I had to try to find what was leaking and remove it if possible. After breaking a small screwdriver and bending a key for a car we sold 5 years ago, I managed to remove a nail that was about 4 inches long -- the trouble was that the rest of the air leaked out rather quickly once I pulled out the nail.

READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS: PLEASE NOTE - WE ONLY HAD THE 16 OZ. CAN

The directions on the can stated that the valve stem had to be in the 8 o'clock position so I had my teenage daughter back the car up until the valve stem was at the 8 o'clock position. I shook the can for over 30 seconds as Angela timed me, then I screwed the hose attachment into the valve stem. It whooshed as a stream of white, foamy liquid rushed through the transparent tubing into the tire. I could hear air rushing in with it but then I recalled what had actually happened the last time I used this stuff about 6 years ago.

You guessed it, the hole was towards the top of the tire and the foam never got there allowing the air to simply escape very nosily out the hole. Since the flat was in the rear of my front-drive Plymouth Voyager Minivan, I drove it to a gas station that I knew had air, about 6 miles away. I went about 25 mph and many people hailed me as they drove alongside to inform me that I had a flat tire.

BUT THEN SOMETHING GOOD HAPPENED

By the time I reached the Chevron Station with the air, still some 20 miles from our home, I was convinced that I had turned the flat tire into spaghetti and that we would miss the bus. Well, I am happy to report that this was not the case. From traveling slowly, the tire had circulated that white sealant foam and had heated up some due to the extra friction caused by running without air. I filled the tire up and to my surprise there was no sound of escaping air. The sealant held and I drove, at a somewhat reduced speed, the remaining 18-20 miles in about 38 minutes to get home about 2 minutes ahead of the bus.

BOTTOM LINE: HAVE AN AIR SOURCE NEARBY IF YOU PULL OUT THE NAIL

This stuff does work, but after you pull out a nail from your tire it may be rather difficult to get it to hold the air before it can circulate and heat up within the tire. This was my actual experience with this exact product today, and it is consistent with what happened 6 years ago. In short, have an air supply lined-up when you insert the sealant as close as possible to where you remove the nail and insert the sealant. This will reduce the risk of running the tire flat and rendering it unserviceable. If you do this, you stand an excellent chance of executing a fast emergency repair that anybody can manage and, like me, you too might save the day.

[I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY PRODUCT OR COMPANY.]

Save PowerAir Air Compressor

I works (that is better than I can say for a previous purchase) and it is very quick, faster than battery operated pumps. The noise level is the same as previous units that I have used.Get more detail about PowerAir Air Compressor.

Discount Reese Towpower 7000200 Wheel and Dock Chock Combo - 3 Piece

I purchased these wheel chocks to keep my trailer in place on my driveway, which they actually do quite well as long as you also use the donut to stabilize the trailer jack wheel. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not removing them one day when I moved my unladen trailer with my truck. They provided nearly no resistance to the trailer and were completely flattened. My mistake, I know, but I didn't expect them to be destroyed. Now I'll be fabricating a set of chocks out of 3/16" plate steel in my garage.

I'll still use the donut.Get more detail about Reese Towpower 7000200 Wheel and Dock Chock Combo - 3 Piece.

Buy Slime 40003 Smart Spair Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit

Had this item in my motorcycle saddle bags for over 2 years "just in case'. Well, sure enough one day I come out of the office and there she sits with a flat rear tire (roofing nail). I pulled the nail by hand, slimed up the tire, pressured up the tire and road away. I know I'm not supposed to... but I've been riding on that repair for over a year now... waiting until I need a new back tire anyway. It's been holding air better than my front tire does actually.Get more detail about Slime 40003 Smart Spair Tire Sealant and Inflator Kit.

Air Tire Chuck Inflator Deflator Gun with Pressure Gauge

As a newbie to the air compressor world, I now see how valuable these are. I've gone through WAY too many air pumps at cheaper costs. If you have or know how to use teflon tape, air compressors and attachments will be no issues with you at all.

This product works as designed. I'll update if I find the gauge becomes uncalibrated and I'll rant/rage about products not built tough like the 'olden' days!Get more detail about Air Tire Chuck Inflator Deflator Gun with Pressure Gauge.
